Author Bio

Liam Barrington-Bush is a ‘cross-pollinator.’ A grassroots activist disguised as an organizational change consultant; a youth organizer trying his hand as a social media trainer; a community development facilitator in investigative journalists’ clothing. He co-founded a youth exchange between young hip-hop artists in Toronto and Havana in 2006, led the UK National Council for Voluntary Organizations’ (NCVO) work on online campaigning for two years, and co-founded More Like People in 2010. He made international headlines in 2011 for unexpectedly presenting a ‘Greenwash Propagandist of the Year’ award to a Canadian government minister visiting the UK to promote the Alberta tar sands and received a journalism fellowship (with his wife, Jen) to investigate Canadian mining operations in Oaxaca, Mexico in 2013.

He is a regular guest lecturer in the Community Leadership programme at Birkbeck College in London, UK. He has blogged, written articles and taken photographs for a range of publications, including the Guardian, Rabble.ca, New Internationalist, ResPublica, Canadian Dimension, NOW Magazine, The Dominion, CivilSociety.co.uk, WalkOutWalkOn.net, Social Fish, Upside Down World, Socialist Worker Canada, FairSay.com, Engage Magazine, Bright Green Scotland and Delusions of Development. He has worked in Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Ukraine, Qatar and the UK.

About the Book:

There are lessons emerging all around us, in the new social movements that have swept the globe, and in the organizing patterns found on social media. Anarchists in the Boardroom is a journey through worker-run factories, Occupy encampments, a spattering of non-violent direct actions and even a few forward-thinking companies, to make the case for helping our organizations ‘to be more like people.’ It asks us to brush away our ‘professional’ assumptions and interact as we do when we don’t have job descriptions or business plans telling us how to change the world. It reminds us of the power each of us has to make change happen, even within the most entrenched of bureaucracies.

The Concordia Community Solidarity Co-op Bookstore is a not-or-profit, independent bookstore located at 2150 Bishop Street in downtown Montreal. The Co-op’s stock will be available for purchase throughout the evening.
